LG Octane – Verizon Wireless

LG Octane is a messaging device that comes with a full QWERTY keyboard and dual displays. On the exterior, you have a 1.76 inches display, from which you can only fiddle with limited applications. As it comes with color support, you can use it as the camera’s viewfinder. Also, it displays quite vibrant images and a crisp text. Underneath it, you have the navigation array and the alphanumeric keypad. The latter is organized in four rows in a curved style; the buttons are well sized and easy to type with.

Once you flip open Octane, you will find the main display that measures 2.6 inches LCD display that delivers bright, colorful graphics and a sharp text. The four row QWERTY keyboard has decent sized buttons that are clearly delineated from each other. On the very front row, you have the numbers that are separated from the letters; you have a large space bar in the middle and the keys that are highlighted in gray double as game controls. Overall, the QWERTY keyboard offers an easy and fast typing experience.

The basic phone features include: alarm clock, stop watch, calendar, vibrate mode, 1000 contact phone book, notepad, world clock, speakerphone, to do list, calculator and so on. On the higher end you have GPS (VZ Navigator), stereo Bluetooth, voice commands, voice dialing, full HTML browser, 3G speeds and Bing Search.

The Octane’s communication capabilities consist in a decent call quality, visual voice mail, text and multimedia messaging with threaded chat view, instant messaging (Skype), social networking (via Social Beat application) and email with access to POP3/ IMAP accounts and Microsoft Exchange server. You can view attachments in PDF, Word, Excel and Power Point format files.

In the fun department, you have a music player, a disappointing 2.5 mm head set jack, two games and a 3.2 megapixels camera that has editing options, Flash and video recording capabilities. The picture quality is mediocre: the images are sharp enough, but the colors look washed out. Because the phone supports 3G, it is compatible with the V Cast services.
