Samsung Epic 4G- Sprint Nextel

Samsung Epic 4G is a multimedia device that has a 4 inches Super AMOLED touch screen and a good set of features for entertainment. The touch screen is responsive and comes with a built in accelerometer and with a proximity sensor. The graphics and videos displayed by this screen look vibrant, bright and the text is crisp.

As for fun, you have a digital player that supports various audio and video codecs, one game and a 5 megapixels camera with editing options, LED Flash, smile detection and HD video recording capabilities. The picture quality is good: the images are sharp and the colors look natural, although we would have wished to see richer colors.

As it is an Android device, it comes preinstalled with several applications: Google Search, Google Latitude, YouTube, Gmail, Google Talk, Sprint Football, ThinkFree Office, Sprint TV and others. The smartphone can take up to 16 GB of expandable memory, so if you crave for more apps, you can get them from the Android Market.

Although Epic 4G runs on the Android 2.1 operating system, you can upgrade it over the air to the Froyo. The device covers the essentials: alarm clock, calendar, vibrate mode, polyphonic ringtones, memo pad, calculator, conference call capability and speakerphone. On the higher end, you have Wi- Fi, GPS (Sprint Navigation, Google Maps), Bluetooth, WebKit browser and 3G/ 4G networks; in addition, you can use it as a mobile hot spot for up to five devices.

Its communication capabilities include a great call quality, text and multimedia messaging, instant messaging, video calling (using the front facing camera and the Qik video chat app), social networking (Facebook) and email. You can access POP3/ IMAP/ Exchange accounts.

As for writing a text, you have three possibilities: the standard virtual Android keyboard, the Swype keyboard or the physical five row QWERTY keyboard. Once you slide the screen to the right, you will find a spacious keypad with wide buttons that offer nice feedback. You have dedicated @ and emoticon keys, a large space bar slightly off center and a number row.
